I want the i30N hatch, not the Veloster. Heck, I’d take this over the Veloster as well, even with the extra junk in the trunk.

Don’t we already get the i30N as the Elantra GT N-Line?

No, the Elantra GT N-Line is a mildly sported up version of the previous Elantra GT Sport. It has the same 201 hp 1.6T motor and open differential as before. The i30 N has the same performance bits as the Veloster N with the 2.0T motor in either 250 or 275 hp trim depending on performance package or not, bigger brakes, better chassis, eLSD in the performance pack, etc.

Interesting. I knew the Elantra GT and i30 were the same car, I guess I just thought that extended to the N-Line being the same as the i30N.

N-Line is basically N-Lite. Kinda like BMW M Sport or Audi S-Line packages.

Makes sense.

N : N-Line as

M : M Performance, and really not even that...

“The N Line trim replaces the previous Sport in the Elantra GT lineup”

I believe they would sell more too in i30/Elantra GT form opposed to Veloster. Like I bought a 5 door hot-hatch in that price range, but can’t justify a Veloster. It’s just too small/impractical even if it’s a okay value at under 30k.

The next gen Elantra is expected to launch with an N trim, at least that's what I've read.... fingers crossed.

Same. Thinking I might pick up a Veloster N for one of my kids several years from now... I assume they’ll depreciate nicely.

I like the Veloster, even in normal form because I am weird, but I REALLY wish they brought the i30N here as well....as much as I already like the Veloster N!

The fastback in N trim would be smart for sure. Maybe they don’t think the  hatch would sell but a more practical Veloster N seems like a no brainer

I like the fastback a lot.

We get the i30N hatch & fastback but not the Veloster N. This is apparently because  no other RHD market takes the Veloster N...so it’s not yet available in RHD. But Hyundai Oz are pushing hard...they also want the Kona N.

I don’t think they were going to sell very many of either here so they just went with the more unique one. Regardless of how good the i30N is - and it seems to have reviewed very well as has the Veloster N - North American consumers tend to take the known quantity when choosing between similar items. Yes the N has more power than the GTI at a similar  price but the performance gap is small   enough that the vast majority of actual new car buyers would probably pick the VW just for the badge.

Hopefully they go totally bonkers and push it to 300 hp. Otherwise it would just live in some weird no-mans-land of performance FWD compact  sedans between the GLI and Type R where I don’t see there being many sales.

I too like the Veloster. I test drove it back when it first came out and I did really like it but couldn’t get over how something so slow never should’ve been called Veloster. Since then  I’ve had another kid so a Veloster N isn’t in the cards but I’m happy it exists.

I would be perfectly happy with even a base Veloster with the non-turbo engine. I drive an Accent and find it peppy enough, so I am sure the lower Veloster trims would be fine enough for me! :)
